Should your company join a Group Purchasing Organization? A decision guide for mid-sized businesses

A Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) is worth joining when your company spends meaningfully on common, indirect categories such as office supplies, industrial supplies, Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO), packaging, telecom, or Information Technology (IT), and your team lacks the time or the scale to negotiate hard on its own. It...

How healthcare, hospitality, and manufacturing companies use GPOs differently

A vertical group purchasing organization aggregates demand within a single industry; a horizontal GPO aggregates demand across industries for the indirect categories they hold in common. The difference lies in which categories the contracts cover, and that one fact decides how a hospital, a hotel group, and a manufacturer each...

How a GPO reduces costs without changing your existing suppliers

A group purchasing organization (GPO) lowers your indirect spend by moving your existing supplier accounts onto pricing it has already negotiated, so you keep the same vendors, the same products, and the same ordering process while paying less. A Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) combines the purchasing volume of its members to negotiate better pricing, contract terms, and service levels with suppliers. For your business, this means access to rates that would normally require far higher individual spend to qualify for. A GPO also handles supplier negotiations, contract management, and ongoing billing oversight, which frees your procurement team to focus on other priorities instead of vendor-by-vendor haggling.

CenterPoint Group covers 60-70+ indirect spend categories through 300+ supplier contracts. The major categories include MRO and industrial supplies, office supplies, safety and PPE, wireless telecom, software and IT, packaging, hotels and car rental, janitorial, lab supplies, facilities, shipping, and human resources. If a category falls outside our existing contracts, our Sourcing Desk™ service can run a custom RFP to source suppliers for that specific need.

No. There is no membership fee to join CenterPoint Group. Our service fee is embedded in supplier pricing, so members pay nothing out of pocket to access our pre-negotiated contracts and account management services. There are also no long-term contracts or purchase minimums required.

Most clients see savings within the first month. CenterPoint’s GPO contracts are pre-negotiated and ready to activate, so members can plug into existing supplier programs without waiting for a lengthy RFP process. Program onboarding typically completes in less than two weeks, and average member savings run around 20%, though specific results vary by category and current pricing.

No. There is no minimum spend required to join CenterPoint Group. Members agree to use best efforts to source at least 80% of their related category spend through CenterPoint’s programs, but there is no dollar threshold or volume floor to qualify for membership or access pre-negotiated pricing.
